By James McMath
Accumulators are a popular betting type that allows punters to predict multiple outcomes in return for greater odds.
While it is difficult to predict multiple outcomes, the higher odds make it an appealing option for people looking to win more from smaller stakes.
Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about accumulator betting. We'll let you know what they are and the accumulator bet types available for you to gamble on, including what is permitted when placing an accumulator bet.
Accumulators are made up of selections from different games, not to be confused with Bet Builders, which allow fans to create same-game multiples.
What Are Accumulator Bets?
Accumulator bets are made up of multiple predictions. This is a way for punters to increase the overall odds and can produce far greater returns on an original stake.
Accumulator bets can be made on a number of sports or events including:
- Football
- Horse racing
- Basketball
- Cricket
- Golf
- Tennis
Football accumulators are particularly popular and can be as simple as choosing a list of teams that you expect to win, lose, or draw. This can allow people to choose a selection of teams that are most likely to win and increase their winnings if the bet comes up.
Each of your predictions must win for the bet to keep going. The individual odds offered on a prediction will accumulate if all parts of the bet come up.
Accumulators bets can be placed on the majority of sports. You can even mix sports if you want. An example of a mixed sports accumulator bet could include:
- Manchester City to win the Premier League
- Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon
- Rory McIlroy to win The Masters
In this case, each of the predictions would have to win for the bet to pay out.
Accumulator Bet Types
The types of accumulators are determined by the number of selections. The following accumulator betting types are available:
- Double - 2 selections
- Treble - 3 selections
- Four-fold accumulator - 4 selections
- Five-fold accumulator - 5 selections
- Six-fold accumulator - 6 selections
Midnite lets you build accas with up to 20 selections. Each bookmaker will have their own rules and limits on how much can be placed on specific odds. This will mitigate potential losses should the bet come up.
The success of an accumulator will be determined by all selections winning. If you have a number of selections, bet types are available that allow you to enjoy multiple permeations.
This includes:
- Trixie - 3 selections. 3 Doubles. 1 Treble.
- Patent - 3 selections. 3 singles. 3 doubles. 1 treble.
- Yankee - 4 selections. 6 doubles. 4 trebles. 1 four-fold.
- Lucky 15 - 4 selections. 4 singles. 6 doubles. 4 trebles. 1 four-fold.
- Super Yankee (Canadian) - 5 Selections. 10 doubles. 10 trebles. 5 four-folds. 1 five-fold.
- Lucky 31 - 5 selections. 5 singles. 10 doubles. 10 trebles. 5 four-folds. 1 five-fold.
- Heinz - 6 selections. 15 doubles. 20 trebles. 15 four-folds. 6 five-folds. 1 six-fold.
- Lucky 63 - 6 Selections. 6 singles. 15 doubles. 20 trebles. 15 four-folds. 6 five-folds. 1 six-fold.
- Super Heinz - 7 selections. 21 doubles. 35 trebles. 35 four-folds. 21 five-folds. 7 six-folds. 1 seven-fold.
- Goliath - 8 selections. 28 doubles. 56 trebles. 70 four-folds. 56 five-folds. 28 six-folds. 8 seven-folds. 1 eight-fold.
These types of bets require multiple stakes to cover each option. For example, a Goliath bet has a total of 247 bets. Therefore a £1 Goliath would have a total stake of £247.
This is a way that punters can enjoy multiple bets from their selections. An accumulator will count as one bet. This single bet will be beaten by one selection losing.
The options above are more expensive to place because they are a combination of bets. But, they mean that there can be multiple ways to succeed if one or all of your selections win.
Each Way Accumulator Bets
Each-way bets can often be placed on single selections, particularly in horse racing. But each-way accumulator bets are also possible. Again, they are typically used in a greyhound or horse racing accumulator. But they can be used in sports betting as well.
An each-way accumulator would be a double bet where one part is reliant on all of your selections winning. The each-way part would allow the selections to be placed. This means they would come in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th.
The number of places for a sporting or racing event will be determined beforehand. The odds for a place will be a pre-determined fraction of the original odds.
Each way accumulator bets are two separate bets that use the same selections. The accumulator odds are determined by the selections and the place odds for each event.
Can All Bets Be Included In An Accumulator?
If you want to place accumulator bets you should be aware of related bets. This is when the outcome of one of your selections may affect the outcome of another.
Related bets are relatively common in football betting. When you place bets on football, you may have noticed odds for doubles like first goalscorer and correct score betting.
This is because a player's scoring will affect the odds of the final score. Specific odds are calculated for related bets.
If a bet is mistakenly accepted and contains related bets, the rules that betting shops have in place mean you would be paid at the recalculated odds.
Is An Accumulator Bet Worth It?
An accumulator bet can be an excellent way to enjoy improved odds. Multiple odds on selections can offer decent returns as there is a greater risk that one or more may fail.
Selecting one winner can be difficult enough. Selecting multiple winners can be even more challenging. This is why accumulator betting that includes multiple bets are so popular.
