If you’re eager to learn more about the UEFA Conference League, then we hope this guide teaches you everything you need to know.

We’ll cover what the Conference League is, which teams are eligible for qualification, and what the winner receives, before we talk about how to bet on it for best results.

Without further ado, let’s start by talking about what the UEFA Conference League is.

What Is UEFA Europa Conference League?

The UEFA Conference League was introduced in the early 2020s as the third-tier answer to the Europa League and Champions League.

Teams qualify for the competition via their finishing position in their domestic league. The club who finish in 7th-place in the Premier League enter the Conference League, whilst other nations (such as Scotland) have two spots open to 3rd and fourth respectively.

Weaker domestic leagues, such as those of Latvia, Bulgaria, Finland, and Northern Ireland, have access to three Conference League spots. Depending on coefficient ranking, clubs will enter the competition at different stages, with those from the top 5 leagues being introduced at the play-off round.

The first Conference League final took place on 25 May 2022 at the Arena Kombëtare in Tirana, Albania. Roma, managed by Jose Mourinhno, were the inaugural winners - defeating Feyenoord 1-0.

What Do The Winners Get?

The winners of the Europa Conference League receive a place in the next Europa League campaign. They also receive around €5 million in prize money, with the runners-up receiving around €3 million.

The Conference League can be considered the stepping stone to the Europa League, which in itself can be considered a stepping stone to the Champions League.

How To Bet On The UEFA Conference League

Betting on the UEFA Conference League can be a little bit trickier than betting on the other European football tournaments. For starters, punters don’t have a lot of history to go on in the Conference League, and there haven’t been enough editions of it for trends and patterns to appear.

Fans making Europa League predictions and Champions League predictions, have at least had serial winners in recent seasons, and punters can always look at the two teams - Sevilla and Real Madrid - as they pick their outrights at the start of the campaigns.

Conference League bettors don’t have that luxury. However, there are still some things you can do to maximize your chances of success. Let’s discuss some of our Europa Conference betting tips in more detail:

Follow The Action

It’s nigh-on impossible to watch every Conference League game, but you can still keep up with the scores and results in real-time.

Following the action will give you an idea of how teams are faring in the competition, who the surprise hits are, and who’s struggling.

Following the results will give you a clear advantage over other bettors as, over time, you’ll be able to make sound predictions on upcoming fixtures.

Choose When To Bet On The Big Teams

Clubs like West Ham United, Copenhagen, and Tottenham Hotspur have all seen Conference League action since its introduction, and you may be tempted to always back these teams.

This makes sense due to their stronger squads and more expensive squads, but keep in mind that these clubs do not always play their strongest 11 in Conference League games, especially away from home.

Tottenham Hotspur were tipped to win the inaugural Conference League for obvious reasons, however they crashed out at the group stages after some rather disappointing away defeats. The main reason was because of their tendency to field a second-string and keep their main players fit for league games.

If your chosen club is considered one of the stronger sides, then take a look at their league fixture list ahead and after their Conference League fixtures. If their league games are important ones, then there’s a greater chance of them fielding their second-string, reducing their chances of winning.

Not every club does this, though, and it’s worth noting that the 21/22 Conference League final was contested between two clubs who were tipped to go far in the competition.

Follow The Team News

The drama of the Conference League starts to show itself in its latter stages, and this is where areas like form, injury records, and overall team news is of great importance.

Alterations in the starting eleven can make or break a team’s chances of Conference League glory, so make sure you're as up-to-date as possible.

Conference League Betting Markets

Now that we’ve gone over the basics of Conference League betting, let’s next talk about which betting markets are available.

Outright Winners

The simplest and most popular form of Conference League betting, this is where you’ll decide who’ll walk away with the trophy come May.

You can also make a bet on who’ll reach the final if picking a winner is a call too close to make.

Best Player and Top Scorer

Lorenzo Pellgirini claimed the Best Player award in the inaugural Conference League season, and you can bet on who’ll be the next player to repeat the feat.

You can also bet on who’ll claim the Top Scorer prize if you have a few players in mind.

Individual Match Bets

If predicting an outright seems too challenging, then you can always bet on individual games in the Conference League.

Markets like under/over bets, handicaps, first goalscorer, and overall match winners apply here, and these can be a great option for those just wanting to test the waters in the Europa Conference League.

Europa Conference League Betting Summary

The Europa Conference League may not be old and historic, but it remains an exciting knockout competition offering you the chance to watch teams and players you’ve never seen before.

Betting on the Conference League requires the same principles as any other competition, but keep in mind that the strongest on-paper teams may not always do as well as you think.

We hope this guide has made the prospect of Conference League betting a little more approachable, and that you’re now in a position to start making some bets.
