League Two Betting Tips And Predictions
Finding solid League Two predictions can be challenging. Here's what you need to know when it comes to League Two betting tips
By James McMath
England’s fourth-tier marks the last step of the Football League system, and teams who are relegated from it subsequently lose their EFL status.
An exciting, unpredictable division, making your pre-season League Two predictions can be a daunting task.
However, with enough research, consideration, and knowledge, you can quickly gain confidence in the division and begin to make bets on it.
From looking at how common home wins are to researching a team’s ability to create chances, here are our League Two betting tips.
Let’s begin.
Why Is League Two So Exciting?
If a team loses its League Two status, then it is expelled from the Football League system until they attain promotion to it again.
The stakes couldn’t be higher for those at the bottom of the League Two table, and the drama that ensues (especially at the end of the season) is certainly on-par with the Championship and the Premier League in terms of excitement.
League Two is also innately harder to predict than other leagues, making shock results, unexpected promotion challenges, and collapsing title charges a regular occurrence. Furthermore, the long season and high number of games (46 each) gives viewers a chance to become invested in their favourite players or teams.
If you want to get in on the action, here’s how you can bet on EFL League Two.
How To Bet On League Two
Betting on League Two requires strong research skills, knowledge on how the division works, and a general understanding of who the best players and teams are.
Research
Like any other football league, the best way to build your pre-bet confidence in League Two is to watch the games either in-person or on TV.
Much different from the Premier League, League Two’s style of play is slower, more physical, and sometimes harder than predicted. Those new to the division may find it difficult to adjust to League Two’s uniqueness, hence why prior research is so important.
A notable aspect of the league is its promotion system. Unlike the Championship, which sees three teams eligible for promotion, League Two offers four. Automatic promotion spots are offered to the top-three teams, whilst the play-offs offer a route for another team to enter League One.
Know The Best Teams
League Two is incredibly competitive, and it can often be difficult to gauge the quality of a team before the season starts.
However, the contenders for the league title and play-off spots announce themselves rather quickly, so make sure you keep an eye on the results from every game week.
League Two Stats
Home advantage plays a big role in League Two. In fact, there were 231 home victories in the 2021-22 season, accounting for 42% of the total games played.
The competitiveness of the league means that teams often need that extra boost from the crowd, so be sure to think twice before you stick a bet on an away victory.
It’s also worth uncovering the data between a team’s average rate of expected goals for and against, as well as recent form and overall performance against a certain side.
What Can I Bet On?
There are loads of betting markets available to you if you want to explore options a little more exciting on who wins an individual game.
From play-off challengers to top scorers, here are just a handful of League Two betting markets you can immerse yourself in.
League Two Outright Winners
One of the most popular League Two betting markets involves predicting the outright winners. The market is tough, as there are 24 teams who could conceivably achieve victory, and the odds are high, however it promises lucrative returns should you be correct.
Automatic Promotions
The two other automatic places are unique to League Two, and can be incredibly hard to predict. Much like the outright winners market, odds on who achieves an automatic promotion are high.
League Two Play-Offs
Predicting who finishes in the play-off spots (4th-7th) can be a little easier due to the larger amount of teams contesting in them, but high odds are still available and, quite often, a team that looks destined to finish in the coveted spots often fails at the final hurdle - such is the drama of League Two.
As well as predicting who finishes in the play-offs, you can also bet on who you think will win them, and who the two teams playing the final will be.
League Two Top Scorer
Much like League One, England’s fourth-tier sees each team play 46 games over the course of a season, which gives goalscorers plenty of opportunity to notch up their tallies.
League Two’s top scorer in the 2021/22 season, Paul Mullin, bagged 32 goals - nine goals more than the Premier League joint-top scorers that season.
Deciding on who finishes the season with the most goals can be difficult, but it’s certainly possible if you research who the most attacking teams are, how many chances they create, and who the clinical finishers are.
You can also bet on shots on target, corners, yellow and red cards, and assists in individual games.
Relegation Odds
Only two relegation spots are open in League Two, half as many as there are in other EFL leagues.
This makes relegation a hard market to predict, but it’s not uncommon for newly-promoted sides from the National League to struggle in the division. However, this isn’t always the case.
In fact, from the 2019/20 to the 2021/22 seasons, none of the teams promoted from the National League suffered relegation. This, again, makes the relegation dogfight difficult to predict, yet extremely exciting.
League Two Betting Tips Summary
League Two is just as enthralling as its more glamorous counterparts. The last football division of the English Football League system, competition in this division is high, and every one of its 24 teams share the same common goal - to progress to League One as quickly as possible.
Finding solid League Two betting tips takes time, research, and knowledge of the division’s style of play and best players. However, after some time, you’ll be in a great position to start placing wagers that are hopefully successful.
