Senegal are the reigning champions of Africa and looking to reach the World Cup quarter-final for only the second time. They are 28/5 to win the match in normal time.
England v Senegal BTTS
Both Teams To Score, or BTTS, is a popular market among football fans. Yes is available at 34/25, while no is 27/50. The odds on ‘Yes’ are longer because of the expectation that England will keep what would be their third clean sheet of the tournament after a 3-0 win over Wales and a 0-0 draw with USA.
That said, England conceded in the 6-2 win over Iran, in which the Three Lions were strong favourites.
A related market is the Match Result/Both Teams To Score, where again we can see the shortest odds are on ‘England and No’ at 53/50. England and Yes is 31/10, while the longest odds are for Senegal and No at 43/5.
Correct Score
Looking at the England vs Senegal odds in the Correct Score market, a 1-0 win for Southgate’s side is 39/10, with 2-0 available at 24/5. Fans predicting another 3-0 win can get 42/5.
Senegal 1-0 is 12/1, 2-0 is 31/1 and 3-0 is 84/1. All other scoreline options are available on the match page.
Goalscorer Odds
Among the England vs Senegal odds is a selection of goalscorer markets - First Goalscorer, Anytime Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer and To Score A Hat-trick.
England captain Harry Kane is favourite to score first at 3/1, with Callum Wilson 18/5 and Marcus Rashford 21/5. Raheem Sterling is 5/1, while Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka are both 29/5 to open the scoring. The shortest-priced Senegal player to score first is Boulaye Dia, who is 10/1.
Ismaïla Sarr has been one of Senegal’s star players during this World Cup and he is 23/2 to score first.
England vs Senegal Handicap Betting
European and Asian Handicap markets allow fans to give teams a virtual head start or deficit.
England to win with a -1 goal start is 77/50, while -2 is 41/10. Senegal +1 is 37/25, and +2 is 47/100. Senegal fans who are feeling really optimistic can get 22/1 on Senegal -2.
Expert View
So just how good is this England side? Former France and Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit said: “I fear England the most. There are four teams that are different for me, there's England, Brazil, Spain and France. They're the teams that have shown something different.
France don't want to play against England but if they have to then they'll do everything they can to win. England are very similar to France in terms of quality and if you ask the French players, they won't want to play against England.
Gareth Southgate has received so much criticism recently but I have confidence in him. England have improved and it's very difficult to win big tournaments. I'm not sure if Southgate will still be England's manager after the World Cup but it's time for England to make a point and he is doing the right things.”
Petit’s former Gunners team-mate Martin Keown told Mail Online: “England cannot under-estimate Senegal. They are physical and their 2-1 win over Ecuador was played at an incredible pace. England need to get as many ball players in the team as possible.
“We need to play Senegal off the park with our football — punish them with our passing — and Southgate has got the players to do that.
“You never want to take your eyes off your next opponent and this is a tough Senegal side. But we both said the same in our pre-World Cup predictions that England would get to the quarter-finals, where we would potentially meet the holders France. That may now happen.
“If so, that could turn into the game of the tournament. I fear the French will ultimately prove too strong for us in the quarters. But like I said at the start of the World Cup, I hope I’m wrong.”
So who will Southgate select to take on Senegal? Former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher believes the side should be unchanged after the victory over Wales. Writing for The Telegraph Carragher said: “Carragher wrote: “I would stick with the same starting line-up.
“When Kyle Walker is fit, he starts. And it is important he gets more minutes in case England progress, building up his fitness.
“Jordan Henderson adds more solidity in midfield, which is important now we are in the knockout stage. The real dilemma is in the wide attacking areas.
“Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka have done nothing wrong, but the impact of Marcus Rashford – three goals in the tournament – cannot be ignored. And I have always wanted Phil Foden in the team.”
Update: England beat Senegal and to progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face France. Fans are now ready to make their England vs France predictions on who will win.
