About Rip City

Rip City is Hacksaw Gaming's take on the classic cartoon cat-and-mouse chase, styled by the studio as R.I.P. City. Ro$$ the cat sits on one side of the grid and Maxx the mouse on the other, both drawn in a scratchy, noirish style that owes a clear debt to Itchy and Scratchy. The setting is a rundown inner city, the soundtrack is smooth jazz, and neither character comes out of it looking well.

The grid runs 5x5 with 19 fixed paylines, which is a deliberately restrained structure by Hacksaw standards. Two bonus rounds carry the mathematical weight, and both centre on the expanding Wild Cat symbol. Maximum win is 12,500x stake.

How to Play Rip City

Winning combinations form left to right from reel one along 19 fixed paylines, with three to five matching symbols on adjacent reels required to pay. All paylines are active on every spin and cannot be adjusted. Stakes at Midnite start from £0.10 per spin.

The Wild Cat is the symbol to watch. When it lands, it can drop down and expand to cover the whole reel, and it carries a random multiplier between 2x and 200x that applies to any win it completes. Where more than one Wild Cat contributes to the same win, the multipliers are added together first and then applied to the total. Three Scatter symbols open the Ro$$ Bonus, and four open the Maxx Bonus.

Rip City Features

  • Fixed Paylines: All 19 paylines are active on every spin and pay left to right from reel one.
  • Wild Cat: An expanding wild that can cover a full reel, carrying a random multiplier from 2x to 200x on any win it completes.
  • Multiplier Stacking: When several Wild Cats contribute to the same win, their multipliers are added together before being applied.
  • Standard Wild: A separate non-expanding wild that substitutes for regular symbols.
  • Ro$$ Bonus: Triggered by 3 Scatter symbols. Awards 10 free spins with an increased chance of landing both wild types.
  • Maxx Bonus: Triggered by 4 Scatter symbols. Awards 10 free spins where reels become activated as Wild Cats land on them, guaranteeing a Wild Cat on every subsequent spin on that reel. All five reels can be activated.
  • Feature Spins: Available in some markets but not in the UK. UK players cannot use Feature Spins due to UK Gambling Commission regulations around bet boosters. UK players can still trigger both bonus rounds through standard play by landing Scatter symbols.

Rip City Theme and Symbols

Hacksaw has built the presentation around contrast. Black, grey and white dominate the backdrop, with pink, yellow, blue and green used sparingly on the symbols themselves. Maxx the mouse chain-smokes on the right of the grid while Ro$$ the cat, missing an eye, glares from the left. It is closer to a dive bar at three in the morning than a cartoon, and the jazz score keeps it there.

Low-value symbols are the standard 10 through Ace card royals. Above them sit a set of items lifted from the setting itself, including bananas, dice and billiard balls. The standard Wild substitutes for regular symbols. The Wild Cat sits apart from all of it, dropping onto the reels as an expanding symbol with a multiplier printed on it, and Scatter symbols open the two bonus rounds.
