Book of Toro takes ELK Studios' recurring bull character and drops him into Egypt, chasing the book of the title before Captain Diaz gets to it first. It was the studio's first attempt at the book slot format, and rather than copying it straight, ELK bolted its own respin mechanics onto the frame.

The result plays quite differently from most games in the genre. Five reels, three rows and ten paylines look conventional enough, but Toro walks across the reels leaving wilds behind, mummies trigger respins, and the free spins round can accumulate up to three expanding symbols instead of the usual one. How to Play Book of Toro

Book of Toro Theme and Symbols

The reels sit in a burial chamber lined with sarcophagi and hieroglyph-covered pillars, and ELK has numbered the ten paylines down the sides of the grid in the style of an older machine. The sound design is the part worth noting.
