Pirots
ELK StudiosAbout Pirots
Pirots introduced ELK Studios' CollectR mechanic when it launched in March 2023, and the series has run to five entries since. Four parrots take the place of paylines. Each one is colour-matched to a gem, and each moves around the grid collecting the gems that match it. There are no lines, ways or clusters involved at all.
The setting is a pirate one, with the four birds having taken over from the captains they used to sit beside. The grid starts at five reels by five rows and expands as far as 8x8 through the features. Maximum win is 10,000x stake.
How to Play Pirots
Each spin drops symbols and four coloured birds onto the grid. Every bird then takes a turn collecting adjacent gems of its own colour, moving up, down, left or right to reach them. A bird can move more than once, and collection continues while any bird still has something to collect.
Collected symbols are removed, remaining symbols drop down and new ones fill the gaps. Gems start at a low value and can be upgraded through the levels by the Upgrade symbol, so the same gem is worth progressively more as a round develops. Stakes at Midnite start from £0.20 per spin. Birds collecting three bonus symbols in the same round opens the bonus game.
Pirots Features
- CollectR Mechanic: Four coloured birds move around the grid collecting matching gems. Payouts come from what the birds collect rather than from paylines, ways or clusters.
- Expanding Grid: The grid starts at 5x5 and expands through the features, up to a maximum of 8x8.
- Symbol Upgrade: The Upgrade symbol raises the value level of a gem colour. Once upgraded, every subsequent gem of that colour pays at the higher value.
- Symbol Transform: A rum barrel symbol converts a group of gems to match the collecting bird's colour, making them collectable.
- Wilds and Coin Wins: Both can be collected by the birds alongside the gems.
- Bonus Game: Triggered when the birds collect 3 bonus symbols in the same round. Grid size, gem upgrade levels and feature meter progress all carry into the bonus rather than resetting.
- X-iter Feature Buy: Available in some markets but not in the UK. UK players cannot use the X-iter menu due to UK Gambling Commission regulations around bonus purchases and bet boosters. UK players can still reach the bonus game by collecting 3 bonus symbols through standard play.

Pirots Theme and Symbols
The grid is framed as a section of deck, with the four parrots waiting above it before each drop and a horizon line behind. ELK Studios kept the presentation clean, which matters more here than usual: with birds moving, gems upgrading and features releasing, the screen has a lot happening on a single round. Each parrot has its own animations and reactions.
The paying symbols are four gems in blue, green, purple and red, each collectable only by the bird of the same colour. Gems begin at a fraction of the stake and climb through several upgrade levels, at which point a single collection is worth many times what it started at. Feature symbols sit alongside them and can be collected by any bird, including the Upgrade symbol, the rum barrel transform, wilds and coin wins.
