By James McMath
Erling Haaland might be left at home kicking his heels, but some of the World’s Best strikers will be on show in Qatar, aiming to fire their teams to the ultimate prize in international football. But who will be top scorer at World Cup 2022?
Here’s a look at the Golden Boot odds ahead of the tournament, with odds correct at time of publishing.
Golden Boot Odds
Brazil are favourites to win the World Cup and are blessed with sensational talent in attacking areas.
However, their captain and talisman Neymar is in fact only fifth favourite to be top scorer, with odds at 13/1. Fellow Brazil forwards Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison are each available at 33/1.
The shortest Golden Boot Odds belong to Harry Kane, out in front at 8/1. It’s understandable, given Kane was top scorer at the 2018 World Cup with six goals and scored four goals during England’s march to the Euro 2020 final last year.
Cristiano Ronaldo won the Euro 2022 Golden Boot with five goals and one assist and is sixth-favourite to be top scorer at World Cup 2022 with odds at 16/1.

Winner and Top Scorer Double
Sometimes, but not always, the winning nation also produces the tournament top scorer. This hasn’t happened since 2002, when Ronaldo scored eight goals to win the Golden Boot as Brazil swept to victory in Japan / South Korea.
David Villa was joint top scorer with five goals in 2010 as Spain lifted the trophy but was pipped to the Golden Boot award by Germany’s Thomas Muller, who contributed more assists.
So, can it be done this time around at Qatar 2022?
Well, Neymar might not be the favourite to win the Golden Boot but Brazil to win and Neymar top scorer is the shortest price of that doubles market at 20/1, ahead of England and Kane and Argentina and Lionel Messi, each at 25/1.
France and Kylian Mbappe is 33/1, while France and Karim Benzema is 40/1. Wales fans who are feeling optimistic about their chances can get 500/1 on Wales to win and Gareth Bale to be top scorer.
