What is a live casino? It's the part of an online casino where real dealers run real tables in a studio, streamed to your phone or computer as it happens. You bet on screen while the countdown runs, and whatever the wheel or the cards do settles it.

What Is a Live Casino?

A live casino swaps the random number generator behind standard online casino games for physical equipment and a human dealer, whether that's a roulette wheel or a shoe of cards. Cameras film every round and software reads the result, so your bet is settled by what actually happened at the table.

On Midnite, those tables sit in the live casino lobby, split into roulette, blackjack, baccarat, game shows and poker.

The Midnite Take: Live Casino: Real Dealers, Real Tables, No Dress Code

Some things feel different when they're happening live. A last-minute winner. A penalty shootout. A roulette wheel spinning in real time.

Live casino games bring that real-time element to online casino play, with actual dealers running games such as blackjack, roulette and baccarat through a video stream.

You can follow the action from your phone or computer, with bets placed digitally while the dealer handles the physical game.

It's a bit different from playing against a computer-generated game. The cards are real, the wheel is real and, thankfully, nobody's asking you to put on a dinner jacket.

How Does a Live Casino Work?

A live casino works by connecting a real table to your screen. Here's what happens in a single round:

  • The studio. Tables run in studios operated by specialist live casino suppliers, not by the casino you play at.
  • The dealer. A trained dealer or host runs the game to written procedures.
  • The cameras. Several cameras cover each table, close-up and wide.
  • The betting window. An on-screen countdown shows how long you have to place chips. At zero, bets close.
  • The result. Recognition software reads the number or the cards from the camera feed.
  • Settlement. Winning bets are paid to your balance automatically, and the next window opens.

So that's how live dealers work on online casinos: the dealer runs the game and the software keeps the score.

how live casino works

Live Casino vs Online Casino Games

The difference between live casino and standard online casino games is who produces the result: a dealer with physical equipment, or a random number generator.

Standard online casino games

A real wheel, cards or dice, read from the camera feed
A random number generator

Whenever you're ready

Just you

Not everything in a live lobby has a dealer. First Person titles, such as First Person Roulette, are digital versions of live games, which matters if a real croupier is why you're here.

What Are Live Casino Games?

Live casino games are the table classics with a real dealer, plus studio game shows, grouped on Midnite into five tabs.

Live Roulette

Live roulette is a real wheel and ball, with your chips on a digital layout and a croupier calling no more bets. The live roulette tables include classic wheels and variants such as Lightning Roulette, which adds random multipliers and changes the standard payouts. Our guide to how to play roulette online covers the bets.

Live Blackjack

Live blackjack is dealt from a real shoe, and you hit, stand, double or split as you would in a casino. Seated tables have a fixed number of places, so a busy one can be full. Infinite Blackjack deals every player the same first two cards, then each player decides their own hand. Both are in the live blackjack tab, and the blackjack guide explains the rules.

Live Baccarat

Live baccarat is a bet on Player, Banker or Tie, and the dealer handles the third-card rules. Midnite's live baccarat tables include Peek Baccarat, No Commission Baccarat and Lightning Baccarat, which adds a 20% fee to each bet. If you're comparing the best live baccarat casino sites, compare table types, stake ranges and how clearly the Banker rules are explained. The baccarat guide covers scoring.

Live Game Shows

Live game shows are wheel and board game formats run by a presenter, with no equivalent on a real casino floor. They're also the loudest corner of the lobby. Crazy Time, Monopoly Live, Funky Time and Dream Catcher are all built around a big vertical wheel.

Here's how to play Monopoly Live at a live casino: you bet on where the wheel stops, on 1, 2, 5, 10 or the 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls bonus segments. A bonus segment sends Mr Monopoly round a 3D board collecting prizes.

Where can I play live wheel casino games online? On Midnite, in the game shows lobby. Each game's rules panel lists what every segment pays.

Live Poker Games

Live casino poker is played against the dealer, not other players, so nobody at the table is trying to read your face. In Casino Hold'em you place an ante, see your cards and the flop, then call or fold. Casino Hold'em and Texas Hold'em Bonus Poker are in the live poker tab.

How to Play Live Casino Games

Playing live casino comes down to two choices, which table and how much per round, and then timing. The countdown waits for nobody.

  1. Open the Midnite live casino and pick a tab.
  2. Choose a table and check its minimum and maximum bet, which show once you open the game, then read the rules panel.
  3. Pick a chip value and place your bets before the countdown ends.
  4. Watch the round. Once the timer ends, your bets are locked in.
  5. Winning bets land in your balance when the result is confirmed.

Midnite's getting started guide covers the basics of slots, table games and live casino.

Playing Live Casino on Mobile

Can I play live casino games on a mobile app? Yes, live tables run in the Midnite app and in your mobile browser, on all supported devices. Live casino games work on mobile devices exactly as on a computer.

What changes is your connection. The betting window doesn't pause while the video buffers, so play on Wi-Fi or a strong signal.

If your connection drops, the table doesn't stop for one player. Once you're back online, you'll see the result on screen or in your balance. Every live casino round is recorded, so Midnite can review any round you query, and some providers let you rewatch a round yourself.

Is Live Casino Fair?

Live casino games at a licensed UK casino run under Gambling Commission rules that cover the studio as well as the casino. The Commission's technical standard for live dealer studios says live dealer operations must be "fair and independently auditable", with casino-quality equipment, trained croupiers and CCTV recording all dealer activity.

Companies supplying casino games to a licensed casino need their own gambling software licence, so suppliers appear on the Commission's public register alongside casinos. Our guide to whether Midnite Casino is legit shows how to check us.

A real dealer doesn't change the maths. Every live game has a house edge built into its payouts, and no betting system removes it.

What to Look for in a Live Casino

The answer to which UK casino has the best live dealer section depends on what you play and how much you stake, and so does which is the best live online casino for you. These are the checks that matter:

  • A UK licence for the casino and its game suppliers.
  • The games you'll actually play. A lobby full of game shows is no use if you only play blackjack.
  • Stake ranges that suit you. Check a table's minimum before you sit down.
  • Clear rules panels, with payouts, side bets and fees easy to find.
  • Mobile play that holds up on your phone.
  • Safer gambling tools that cover live casino.

Our guide to choosing a UK online casino applies them to the whole casino.

Live Casino at Midnite

Midnite's live casino lobby is split into Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat, Game Shows and Poker tabs, with rows for Hot Tables, Low Stakes Tables and new arrivals. Tables come from Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live and Stakelogic Live, and several carry the Midnite name, including Midnite Roulette and Midnite Blackjack, which Pragmatic Play Live runs. Stakes vary by table: open a game to see its limits, and start with the Low Stakes Tables row if you want smaller bets.

Reality Check covers live casino as well as casino and virtuals, so you can get reminders of how long you've been at the tables.

Play Responsibly

Live tables keep going whether you're ready or not, because the next betting window opens almost as soon as the last result is paid. Decide what you're happy to spend before the first round, and don't use the next hand to win back the last one.

You can cap deposits minus withdrawals over a day, week or month with a Net Spend Limit, set deposit limits or Loss Limits, get a Reality Check reminder every 10, 20 or 30 minutes or every hour, or take a Cool Off of 1 to 30 days.

FAQs

What Is the Difference Between a Live Casino and an Online Casino?

A live casino uses a real dealer and physical equipment streamed from a studio. Standard online casino games use a random number generator and go at your pace.

Are Live Casino Games Rigged?

Not at a licensed UK casino. Live dealer studios must meet Gambling Commission standards for fair, independently auditable games, with dealer activity recorded on CCTV. The house edge still applies.

Can I Play Live Casino Games on My Phone?

Yes. Live casino games work on phones and tablets as well as computers. A steady connection matters most, because the stream is live.

Is Live Casino the Same as Playing in a Real Casino?

Close. The dealer, wheel and cards are real, but you bet through a screen during a timed window.

Live Casino, in Short

A live casino is a real table you can join from your sofa, with a dealer, a countdown and a result filmed as it happens. Have a look round the live casino at Midnite.

Set your budget before the first round rather than after the fifth. Midnite is licensed and regulated by the Great Britain Gambling Commission. 18+, please gamble responsibly.
