150 Years of Wolves. One Very Big Wall.
Billy Wright. John Richards. Steve Bull. Raul Jimenez. Four names. Four generations. Plenty of reasons for Wolves fans to stop and stare.
By Dave Learmont
To celebrate Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 150th anniversary, we’ve commissioned a brand-new mural bringing together some of the biggest figures in the club’s history.
And, as birthday cards go, this one’s fairly hard to miss.
The mural celebrates four players who each left their own mark on Wolves.
There’s Billy Wright, the legendary captain who became the first footballer in the world to win 100 international caps.
John Richards, whose goals helped define one of the great Wolves sides.
Steve Bull. Which, frankly, should require no further explanation in Wolverhampton.
And Raul Jimenez, returning to familiar territory as part of a mural celebrating the players and moments that helped make Wolves what they are today.
150 years doesn't fit neatly into a highlight reel
A century and a half is a lot of football.
Different teams. Different eras. Different heroes. The same gold and black running through all of it.
So when Wolves’ 150th anniversary came around, sticking our logo somewhere and calling it a day wasn’t really our style.
As the club’s principal partner and front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 season, we wanted to create something for the people who’ve actually lived that history: the fans.
Midnite’s Head of Brand Marketing Andrew Mook said:
“Wolves’ 150th anniversary is a special moment for everyone connected to the club, and we wanted to give something back to the fans that celebrate its incredible history.
“This mural brings together four iconic figures from different generations, creating a lasting tribute that supporters can enjoy and feel proud of.
“As the club’s principal partner, it’s important to us that we contribute to the culture and community surrounding Wolves, and celebrate a club who is truly Built Different.”
Derby weekend. Obviously.
The mural will officially be unveiled on Saturday 19 September, one day before Wolves host West Brom.
Because if you’re going to reveal a giant celebration of Wolves history, doing it on the eve of a Black Country derby feels about right.
Fans can head to Molineux on Saturday to see the unveiling and be part of it in person.
Wolves Head of Partnerships Dave Thomson said:
“This project is a great example of what a partnership can achieve. Midnite approached us wanting to give something back to our supporters, and in our 150th anniversary season that gesture carries even greater significance.
“To have a partner so keen to proactively invest in our fans and the club is something we're truly grateful for.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the final piece when it’s unveiled later this month.”
We do like a massive football mural
This isn’t our first rodeo. Or wall.
Earlier this year, we unveiled a 50-metre mural celebrating Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.
Now it’s Wolves’ turn.
Not because football needs another bit of sponsorship wallpaper, but because the best clubs are bigger than what happens during 90 minutes.
They’re players you grew up watching. Stories your dad still tells you. Goals you’ve watched back approximately 700 times. Names that mean something before anyone even needs to explain why.
For Wolves, 150 years has produced quite a few of those.
We’ve managed to fit four on the wall.
See the mural unveiled at Molineux on Saturday 19 September. Keep an eye on Wolves’ official social channels, wolves.co.uk and the Wolves App for more details and behind-the-scenes content.
